Perhaps it’s because it’s a series that appears to a world audience which appreciates more indie-leaning music, but there’s always been a fantastic mix of emerging artists - some of which have been featured in the game before reaching indie circles (for instance, Jungle and Broods have just weeks ago begun to garner attention and I have yet to hear FMLYBND outside of Soundcloud). FIFA 16’s soundtrack is jam-packed with great artists, including Magic Man, Vance Joy, Tune-Yards, Tensnake, Kasabian and many more. Ther’s a great interface including album cover art to show the full 40+ song soundtrack, allowing players to turn songs off they aren’t partial to.

That said, the reason I’ve spent so much of this review talking about niggling details like crappy passing assistance is because these things, to me, aren’t niggling details. They're the game. They’re what possess my thoughts when I play. They’re the things I want to see changed every year. They’re the things that disappoint me, every year. They’re what generate feelings of happiness and sadness as I play and they’re exactly the same now as they were in 2011. I think fixing them would mean changing what FIFA is from that very first act of compromise all the way down, and I’m ready and waiting for someone to try.

What’s changed instead in FIFA 16 are the same things that do change every year: pace, defending, dominant strategies. Crosses, so overpowered last year as to make every game about simply chasing the ball down the wing and then hoofing it into the middle, have been nerfed. This diversifies the tactics you’ll encounter when playing online. The variability of scoring is miles ahead of FIFA 16 also. Matches in FIFA 16 are usually decided by finesse shots, headers or simple tap ins as you sweat it across the goals but in PES 2015, shooting is undoubtedly one of the most appealing aspects of the game. It’s difficult to score but having a crack is always encouraged. Rarely will you score the same goal.

FIFA 16 Ultimate Team (FUT 16) continues to plug along and provide a deep fantasy experience for those who want it, and the transfer market continues to be busy with lots of players up for auction. I’m not a big player of Ultimate Team modes, but I liked the idea of signing loan players in FIFA 16, which gives you a taste of a high-level player for a smaller cost. Also, the concept squad option allows you to plan out your future growth or work around injuries, and you can plug any player into a possible line-up to take the guesswork out of what the chemistry mix might be. It’s a smart addition, and I enjoyed tinkering with it. EA realized that there may be a disconnect with those who might not want to put the time in to building up a squad, so it’s offered an olive branch of sorts in the form of loans.

There was a lot of speculation as to just how EA would manage this system. Obviously, it wasn’t just going to be free reign in picking out loan players and running with a team that would feature some ridiculous combination of Messi, Ronaldo, and Bale up front. There is a rotation of players that become available for loan based upon the current needs of the team. The number of matches where these players can be utilized are all over the place, but the general idea was roughly three to five matches. After the number has been exhausted, that player is no longer available and will disappear from the roster. It’s a simple way to allow players to get a taste of a great player on their squad without having to open pack after pack and will build up interest in those who have not yet been hooked on FIFA 16 Coins Ultimate Team.
